THE WONDERFUL DESERT YUCCA
One of the most beautiful plants in the desert, the YUCCA,
is an evergreen plant that actually belongs to the Lily family.
The Lily family has long been known as one of the most beneficial
plants to men and animals with a wide range of beneficial
and medicinal properties. The night blooming YUCCA blossoms
vary from pure white to a cream color and fill the desert
air with a strong but delicate fragrance that is unsurpassed.
America's
true natives, the Indian tribes, have long recognized the
many beneficial properties of the YUCCA. All parts of the
plants were used for food. The seeds were eaten raw or roasted,
as well as preserved for winter use by cooking and drying,
then grinding them up and kneading them into small cakes.
A preserve could be made from the pods that were used to sweeten
beverages or make herbal teas. The YUCCA fibers made an excellent
needle and thread. The tough cords of the leaves and stems
were woven into ropes, matting for chairs or beds or made
into sandals. The YUCCA root yielded a foaming soap for washing
clothes, bathing and shampooing (including ceremonial hair
washing). The YUCCA plant also provided a wide variety of
medications that assisted in blood clotting to stop bleeding,
cleared up various skin disorders, eruptions and slow healing
ulcerations, as well as an excellent tonic for rheumatism.
Modem research is well on the way to substantiating these
many beneficial uses of the plant as well as many others.
Perhaps these were the reasons that the Indians often referred
to the plant as the "Tree of Life".
The Many Benefits of Yucca
One of the loveliest and fragrant plants of the desert is
the YUCCA. Yet it lives, even thrives, in one of nature's
harshest environments. Life-giving water is very scarce, the
soil is poor, and the desert climate ranges to the extremes
with little notice. Under these conditions, most creatures
would just hang on, if they survived at all. Yet the YUCCA
has learned the secret of flourishing under these harsh conditions.
Perhaps the same qualities that enable the YUCCA to do so
well in stressful conditions is the reason it also helps other
plants, animals and humans to stay healthy under stressful
conditions.
Government and private research at eight different universities
has shown that YUCCA derivatives increase yield dramatically
for over 12 different crops, increase the milk yield by three
to four pounds a day in dairy cattle as well as stimulate
their natural growth. YUCCA acts as an anti-inflammatory agent,
anti-stress agent and digestive aid in racehorses and increases
the efficiency of waste treatment facilities in several cities
nationwide.
Anti-Inflammatory
YUCCA derivatives contain a natural steroid that has been
shown to be beneficial in the treatment of such inflammatory
conditions as gout, arthritis and rheumatism as well as eczema
and scalp troubles
Digestive Aid, Natural Cleanser and Anti-Toxin
Another natural derivative of YUCCA is called "saponins", and is a natural glucoside that acts as a super wetting agent.
This makes YUCCA a superior natural intestinal cleanser that
has a detergent effect throughout the G.I.tract. The 'detergent' does not penetrate the intestinal walls, but allows the intestines
to absorb water and nutrients much more efficiently. Because
you get a greater efficiency in absorbing the nutrients from
the foods you eat, you may actually have to eat less (dieters,
take note!) It also helps maintain your optimal intestinal
pH balance so that your normal intestinal flora that aid in
your digestion process will remain viable. These same saponins
help gouty conditions because they have the ability to break
down organic wastes and uric acids that cause the disease.
Arthritis to Migraines
An article appearing in the Let's Live Magazine (Feb/Aug
75), related the benefits of YUCCA as an anti-toxin. Many
scientists and doctors believe that toxins from the food we
eat are deposited in the colon. These toxins eventually are
absorbed into the system, "resulting in allergic responses-
ranging from migraines to asthma to arthritis." In other
words, a "toxic colon" - like a cesspool, may
cause many diseases. If we don't clean it out occasionally,
these toxic wastes from pyruvic acid to fumaric acid build
up over the years, resulting in disease and more rapid aging.
As a superior intestinal cleanser, YUCCA especially when
combined with proper dietary habits, may lead us to a
much more healthy and exhilarating lifestyle.
No side Effects!
One of the most reassuring aspects of the YUCCA research
is the fact that there are NO NEGATIVE SIDE EFFECTS RECORDED
IN ANY RESEARCH ON PLANTS, ANIMALS OR PEOPLE!
Dr. John W. Yale, PhD, concludes in his research that the
natural steroid saponins in YUCCA have a consistent and beneficial
effect on the growth of bacteria and higher plants when they
subjected stressful condition.
(1975) Drs. Bingham and Bellew of the National Arthritis
Medical Center found YUCCA extracts to be effective in the
treatment of various forms of arthritis. Reported in the Journal
of Applied Nutrition, the yearlong research project found
that the majority of patients treated reported a relief from
the pain, swelling and stiffness of arthritis.
NOTE: No claims are made of the healing properties of the
YUCCA plant - we are only reciting the evidence of medical,
scientific and university research for your own conclusions.
